The Arctic Circle on 66° 33' north, stretches all through our region Mo i Rana, and is possible to visit in several ways.

Mo i Rana is situated 25 km south of the Arctic Circle, the imaginary line crosses through the Svartisen mountains north of the city, and can be seen from the city centre. Arctic circle Norway is the gateway to the arctic Norway, and here you can experience the Midnightsun during the summer season. The Northern Light, Aurora Borealis, plays on the night sky during the winter season. The winter light with snow on the ground and pastel colours on the sky and the mountain peaks is a beautiful sight.

The Northern Light or the Polar Light, phenomenon on the night sky, specially strong in belts around the magnetic poles, is on the Northern hemisphere called Northern Light (lat. Aurora Borealis), and on the southern hemisphere called Southern Light (lat. Aurora Australis).Varies in intensity, coloured from white green to deep red, and come in different shapes, f. ex. beams, arches and draperies. The Northern Light stretches to about 90 km from the earth at the lowest. The frequency changes in time with the sun activity in an 11- year period.
