Saltstraumen is situated 33 km from Bodø, Nordland county’s main city. It is a worldfamous fishing paradise with fantastic nature with the grand mountains "Borrvasstindene" nearby.

The worlds strongest tidal currant with 6 hour intervalls between high and low tide. 400 millions kubic meter salty water is passing through the 150 meter wide and 3 kilometer long pass between Saltenfjorden and Skjerstadfjorden with a speed of up to 20 knots. These extreeme forces creates wirlpools with a diameter of up to 10 meters and a dept of 4-5 meters.

In the period 3rd June - 14th July you can enjoy the midnight sun in this area.

Salstraumen is as mentioned a fishermans paradise. You can easily catch fish from land and boat. The strong stream leads the "fishfood" into the area and is the reason for the large and broad selection of fish you can catch here. To mention some: Colefish, cod, catfish, seabass and skate. Colefish is the speciality for this area. In fact the wolds largest, registered colefish of 22,7 kg was caught in Saltstraumen on a fishingrod.
